BIN

Re-greening as a new priority in urban planning

What is BIN?

The Bundes-Initiative Nachvergrünung (BIN) is an intervention through design in the urban landscape.

Analogous to redensification, BIN is making re-greening a new priority in urban planning – the goal is to integrate plants into the urban space in a minimally invasive way and to enable citizens to garden their immediate vicinity – their neighborhoods.

Re-greening our cities

The planters are attached to existing infrastructure like posts and poles without interfering with the road surface and provide a foundation for plant life in city centers: This makes cities livelier and more environmentally friendly

Who can participate?

Everyone can – if you feel your neighborhood misses greenery, go ahead and plant some! Cities’ (usually underfunded) Parks Dept.’s can’t keep up, so take action yourself.

Where can I get a BIN-planter?

If you scroll a little further, there is a download link for the smallest planter (BIN Planter S) available for yourself to 3D-print yourself.

The bigger planters are currently not on sale, but feel free to adapt the idea yourself and build your own parasitic planter to re-green your neighborhood!

What plants should I plant?

You should research what plants are native to your area and limit yourself to planting those.

What else do I need?

Some Soil, a couple seeds and a swirl of water from your bottle will do. The hardest requirement is the patience to wait for the first sprouts to rear their heads.
